National Director Martin Campbell is working in partnership with the United Nations Sub-Committee on Gender Equality and Non Discrimination of the committee on Human Rights, National Minorities and Interethnic Relations of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and The Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and International Charitable Organisation “Roma Women Fund Chiricli.

This work commenced in October 2018 starting with a visit to the county by Martin to meet with the Minister of the Interior during which he discussed the good working practices of the GRTPA and UK agencies. Following this meeting Martin was invited to speak in the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament of Ukraine) to share the work of the GRTPA amongst various agencies including NGO’s working in Roma Rights, Chiricli and the United Nations. The final day of his visit involved participation in the working group to develop the national strategy for nation.

Martin ” It was a privilege to once again work in collaboration with the ODIHR to assist our European partners by sharing the good practices championed by the GRTPA other agencies within the UK and ROE. I am reassured by the positive attitude of the Government of the Ukraine that they are willing and able to help the Roma people of the Ukraine by implementing this new initiative and developing there already excellent practices. It is clear that the Police have a very complex situation to deal with in a challenging environment, however I could clearly see that the practitioners, supported by the management structure, had a willingness to help. I look forward to returning during 2018 and 2019 to continue our support. Our future support will be funded by me as this is a urgent pressing need for the Roma People.”
